Our Favourite Transcona Neighbourhoods

Transcona is the Winnipeg suburb that everyone somehow knows about, even if they’ve never once stepped foot in the city. Okay, maybe not quite everyone. However, there is no denying that this is one of the most interesting and unique places in Manitoba, if not all of Canada!
Perhaps it’s the fact that it’s the hometown of famed athletes and celebrities like Terry Fox, Susan Auch, Rod Black, Bradford How, and Kenny Omega that has helped to put Transcona on the map. In Transcona, you’ll discover a friendly place that welcomes visitors and newcomers from all backgrounds. It’s also a broad area full of interesting and unique communities where there’s something for everyone. Here’s a deeper look at a few of the individual neighbourhoods within Transcona.
Canterbury Park
In Canterbury Park, “park” is the operative word. This modern and surprisingly affordable community is surrounded by lakes, parkland, and greenery while being close to all of the amenities that attract you to city life. Canterbury Park is under the jurisdiction of the River East Transcona School Division and has several schools in the vicinity, making the area a top choice for young families.

Several recreational facilities, such as East End Arena and Community Club, Transcona Centennial Pool, and Transcona Golf & Country Club, are available to keep the young ones (and the young at heart) busy and entertained. Downtown Winnipeg is approximately a 40-minute drive away. However, you can access most of what you need right in the neighbourhood, often even within walking distance.
Housing options range from reasonably priced condos and townhouses to spacious detached homes that provide an affordable yet high-quality standard of living.

Lakeside Meadows
Lakeside Meadows is a family-friendly community that lies slightly north of Canterbury Park and Regent Park. You may also hear it referred to as “Meadows Meadows,” which may sound like a children’s song with a catchy ring to it. But when you see the amount of unspoilt beauty and lush green spaces all around, you’ll know that the name is well-deserved!
The Transcona Community Bioreserve is one of Winnipeg’s most talked about trails. Once the site of an industrial plant, it now provides 6.7 km of paved trails leading through peaceful communities, open fields, and prairie forests. In the spring and summer, you’ll often spot a wide variety of butterflies and songbirds along your path!
With so much abundant green space, it’s easy to see why families and others seeking an active lifestyle are attracted to Lakeside Meadows.
However, the community is no slouch when it comes to modern-day conveniences and attractions, either! If you want to grab a bite, there are plenty of nearby restaurants and eateries available to soothe your appetite, including highly rated options like Dal’s Restaurant & Lounge, Tom Yum Thai Restaurant, and State & Main, to name a few. If you’re looking for some top-notch pizza or chicken wings, Mr. B’s Pizza & Chicken is a must-try! Shopping options in the neighbourhood include Spring Meadow Square and Crossroads Station Shopping Centre.
As both an established and growing community, you’ll find a wide mix of housing options. Single-family bungalows, split levels and two-storey homes are plentiful. Plus, there are modern condos and townhouses sprinkled throughout the area that are perfect for first-time buyers, downsizers, or anyone looking for a carefree life.
Kildonan Green
In West Transcona, you’ll find the beautiful neighbourhood of Kildonan Green. Like all communities in the area, it’s full of nature and scenic beauty. It’s also highly walkable and convenient, and many stores, restaurants, and essential services are within easy walking or cycling distance. The neighbourhood conveniently also has its own shopping plaza, Kildonan Place, with more than 100 stores and a movie theatre.
A few points of interest near the area include Apee Panchhi Park and the “Hi Neighbour Sam” statue, one of Transcona’s most iconic landmarks!
A short drive takes you to The Forks National Historic Site, a 9-acre park on the Red River, complete with a playground & amphitheatre. If all this exploring causes you to work up an appetite, the Forks Market will have something to suit your tastebuds.
The housing market in Kildonan Green offers something for everyone, from affordable starter houses to unique lofts and spacious two-storey homes.
Kildonan Meadows
A few minutes west of Kildonan Green lies its sister neighbourhood of Kildonan Meadows, which shares many of the same conveniences and amenities. One of the most significant highlights of the area is the Kildonan Meadows Park, which provides ample green space and opportunities for outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike.
The neighbourhood is also within easy driving distance of the Winnipeg Sign, a 2.5-metre wonder that welcomes newcomers to the city. It’s a must-see landmark when illuminated in colourful lights after the sun goes down! For history buffs, the Riel House National Historic Site is a short drive away and is a great way to explore the past and gain an understanding of Winnipeg’s culture today!
The real estate landscape in Kildonan Meadows is similar to the rest of Transcona, with options ranging from affordable condos to single-family homes and modern new builds.
